Amos

Amos is one of the minor prophets found in the Old Testament. He makes the point that he is not the son of a prophet or a career prophet but he has been compelled by God to share his message. He mostly is preaching to the Kingdom of Israel after the division of the kingdoms of Judah and Israel.

His teachings highlight two main themes prayers and sacrifices do not make up for bad deeds and behaiving justly is much more important than ritual. One famous verse from this book that you may have heard is:

“Let justice roll on like a river,
righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (5:24)
