Compassion

Jesus had been in the countryside teaching for several days. The crowds had joined him and listened, even spending the night on the hillside just to hear him teach the next day. Finally it came time for Jesus and His disciples to move on but the people did not have sufficient food for their journey back to their towns. The Bible says Jesus “had compassion” for these folks, he was concerned that in their journey back to their towns they might grow weak and collapse from hunger. So miraculously he fed them all a meal.

Compassion as an emotion unaccompanied by action is sweet but inadequate to make a lasting difference in people’s lives. As a church, we suspend our regular worship gatherings to live compassionately among our neighbors. We believe that living compassionately requires action.
